Hello Everyone:

To Give Is To Receive.

Yesterday morning, before I left for OOTC, I called Hamilton Food Share to confirm that on Friday  they would be dropping off three large bins for non-perishable food items to the site of my husband's company "Holiday" party. For many years, his staff, in high heels or suits and ties have shlepped in bags of food.  Mona Santucci, of HFS, knows also of my connection to OOTC and has for the past many years allowed OOTC coordinators one visit per season to stock our pantries from whatever surplus she may have. As we spoke, she told me the good news that she would like us to come Thursday to stock up our pantries!   She also said that the individuals who drop off food to Hamilton Food Share are the ones who seem to need it the most.

A young male dinner guest last night thanked us for our kindness and, as his fingers were in his pant pocket, he asked if we would accept a donation. I replied that it would be very much appreciated but not necessary. Nonetheless, he handed me some coins which I put in my pocket and then he quickly left. At home, I pulled out the money and put it on the desk as Lowell watched hardly able to keep up his strong male composure ... four quarters, one dime and four pennies.

Our talkative guest, Gerald, now has his own roof. (I kind of missed him at breakfast this morning. He used to drive a cab in North York, a large Jewish community. He's proud that he knows more Yiddish than I do!) Anyway, next Tuesday at dinner time, he's dropping off some books and things that others might need. (If anyone has some kitchen chairs, end table, coffee table for him.... let me know.)

Sandra came in last night around 7:00 to stay over.  She's been with us for every year, I think. Lila and I were just locking up, but Sandra got our attention, and handed us a plastic bag, saying that it's a little present in appreciation of our kindness to her. Inside was a small but perfect poinsettia wrapped in gold foil.

Please come out this Friday, Dec. 5 at 7:00 pm at 270 Sherman St. N, formerly the Imperial Cotton Factory. It's the 8th Annual Design Hope Art & Music event with ALL proceeds going to Hamilton Out of the Cold.  This amazing group is forever reinventing their event.  Last year, they contributed a staggering $65,000.  So if you want to be a part of their energy and brilliance, please join me.  There will be light refreshments, the auction, and live performances from some of the recording artists who have created a third CD, "Under Angels." For more information, go to http://www.designhope.ca/

Thanks to all of you who GAVE a delicious meal and wonderful ambience last night and this morning.  The food was outstanding under the direction of Andrea Molot, Jill Gaffe and Rhonda Ross.  Pureed with our new super-cool emulsifier:  broccoli soup garnished with popcorn!, roast chicken, mashed potatoes, tossed salad in a balsamic dressing, coleslaw, bananas and apples. Yes, you guessed it! Say it all together!  "There was nothing left!"
Hope you RECEIVED a great giant smile!

See you next week,

Cindy

BTW: Last night, the green-binning was a "mekhaye" (Yiddish for "a pleasure, delight.") Take that, Gerald!
